A Few Words on Art Collecting and Our Process

M Crosland Studios gallery where we hang, photograph and evaluate the art before

making a decision to allow it on the market. Hosting occasional showings is a valuable part of our art

process, as it allows feedback from others on how we are doing.

There are numerous how to guides floating around the web on collecting art. It's very simple. Buy the art that speaks to you, that you want to look at everyday hanging on your wall. You cannot go wrong following that advice. If you love it, bring home!

The art you collect may or may not become valuable. All professional artists, including me, want their work to ultimately increase in value and demand. It's not a given, however, so unless you are buying blue chip art for millions of dollars at auction, the sensible approach is to collect the art that makes you happy.

I can speak for hours on the how's and why's of owning art. I'll give you just one more thought, and this is incredible really. Art has tremendous healing powers, found in both viewing and creating it. Mayo Clinic has done a great deal of research on this subject and it's a scientifically proven fact. The art you hang on your bare wall provides many more benefits than beautification. It is healing and calming to body, mind and soul. Beautiful art is truly a source of joy for those who own and view it.

The Joy of Collecting Art

Just A Few Words About Our Art Process

Each work of art that leaves the M Crosland studios, whether an original, or limited edition print, is produced with the highest quality of known archival standards. Most originals are painted on linen panels. The large abstract works are usually on heavy, stretched canvas. All receive a protective coating to guard the painting from damage. Originals, and select limited editions, are accompanied with a certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist. Each painting is signed on the front, as well as on the back, where it is usually hidden from public view. We take these steps to protect the value of M Crosland art, to the highest standards possible.

The painting in process (messy studio and all) is a 9" X 12", in oil, on linen panel. It is titled "Paris On A Rainy Day". What you see here are mostly base color layers, with very little detail included yet. The finishing steps will be adding the multiple layers of detail required to create a truly investment worthy fine art painting.

What could be more wonderful than a career as a fine art painter!
